I've compiled this list by taking into account a crucial factor, which is - detaching these songs from their Anime counterparts and rating them as stand alone songs. This was done to remove the advantage these songs may have by associating themselves with Favorite Anime(kinda like what A.R Rehman said). This is extremely difficult since the mind had already associated the songs with the Anime, and you have to go to the roots and detach it.. by asking the question, "Would I have liked this song if it were a part of an Anime I Hate/Dislike", at the same time tuning your mind in such a way as if you are listening to the song the very first time, and it has that attractive appeal even from the INSTANT you listen to it the first time.

The list was done by taking the full version of the songs, not the 90 second clipped tv version. This is done because some songs which appears good in the tv version, are inconsistent & horrible in the full version.

There are many many MANY songs which are awesome, but the competition was SO FIERCE that they simply can't make it to the top 10.
They are Kenichi 2nd ending and 1st opening, Getbackers 2nd & 3rd endings, Curious play 1st opening, Utawarerumono op and end, Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto Opening, Outlaw star Op and Endings, Trinity Blood ending, Samurai Champloo ending & the special ending at the end of Episode 16?, Tokyo Underground 1st Opening and ending, Area88 ending, 2X2 = Shinobuden op & ending, World destruction opening, Samurai 7 1st ending, Card Captor Sakura First Opening, Saiyuki Reload ? ending, Aizteru(spell) Baby op and ending, and also a couple of op/end from Onepiece, Naruto(& Shipp), Bleach, Inuyasha, Hitman reborn, Ranma1/2(& OVAs), Eureka 7, Samurai X & GiTS SAC(1 and 2).


It's strange, every song in my top 10 is from a female artist, except for samurai x. I guess the female voice is more mellifluous and more suited to songs than the male voice.

Opening and endings can be rated on
1. Just, how good the song is. (usu. interpreted as such by people)

2. How good the the visuals are (another possible interpretation.. after all openings can act as a preview into a series. Like, some sort of a trailer. Endings are like reflections. Simple example: An op/ed with 'awesome' action sequence/eyecandy/CGI/others, will fare better than a op/ed where only credits with songs are rolled out -Hollywood flicks)

3. A combination of the above two. (the one I'll use for my ranking. But, for me both should be good simultaneously)

4.Others- All other methods(logical or illogical), which might also be influenced by the series of the opening/ending. Influence of series can however be present in all 4 methods.

So here is the list. I will edit it later to update/correct it. I have lots of op/ed that I like and its not easy to rank them or even remember them at once.

Important note : I am not adding Inuyasha in the list. Else, MY will, Fukai Mori, Grip , Angelus, Shinjitsu no uta, Come, EveryHeart and Dearest etc will make the list InuYasha-only and for me the impact of InuYasha op/ed is always going to be too huge to make any rational judgement. Maybe the Op/ed are that good. Maybe not. Similarly I an not listing Maison Ikkoku -Suki Sa, Fantaji , Cinema etc.
But I'd recommend people to go through the above listed songs those would have topped my list and thus my recommendation.
