Do you believe in luck, fate or coincidence?
« on: March 07, 2010, 11:47:07 PM »

Pretty self explanatory. Do you believe in luck, do you believe in fate/destiny, or do you believe in coincidence? Or some crazy combination of the three.

Technically, I suppose coincidence is a branch off of luck, but lets ignore that for the purposes of having a third choice, shall we?

They say luck is nothing more than a happy coincidence... but I dunno what to say really... I believe that a man/woman may forge his/her own path... but certain things are outside his/her control... could those be explained by luck, fate or coincidence? I honestly dont know...

I think back to the time when I was almost hit by a Tata Sumo when I attempted a reckless overtaking maneuver... I had let go of the wheel and said my prayers... but I came out the other end without even getting my car scratched... Fate? Luck? Coincidence? I dont know which one it was... maybe all 3 in tandem.... but I think there is a higher power... or simply something outside our control which can work for or against us... giving it a name would be presumptuous of me... so I will decline the vote... but these are my 2 cents on this matter...

Luck is real, the question is whether or not you can alter your rate/level of luck. Well I shouldn't say that. Either luck or fate have to exist in this world, and both cannot exist together unless you believe in selective fates which are another story. So if you don't believe in one you have to accept the other.

I think a Coincidence can be looked at as patterns in someone's luck/fate and can be put into a sub section of either so it's not really a legitimate concept on it's own.
Laziness, or lack of effort, can best be avoided by the effort to avoid effort in the most effortless way.

Just my cheap opinion:

Everybody is entitled to their own decisions and, perhaps, his/her own future. Quite a cliche for watching shows haha  But seriously speaking, I am quite inclined to think that luck, destiny, etc (in an otherworldly point of view) are envisaged by people themselves. But, coincidence (or what most people call "luck"), I believe, is natural on human life. I like to think of it as a product of the decisions of other people. So unknowingly, some unexpected turn of events do good or bad to a certain person on account of the other one.

I am an American, so I do not have an oriental point of view. I also am a Statistician and deal with issues of probability.

I tend not to believe in luck or in fate. I believe that we can influence greatly what happens to us. Our choices, our decisions to learn and to prepare for the future help us to be able to take advantage of opportunities others may not even see. That is often called "luck" -- but it is a great deal more.

How you live life influences how you will find it treating you.

There are matters of chance and happenstance. Some of it may be combined with skill that makes things turn out OK. Kyo wrote of a near accident. Although he says he had let go of the wheel, he probably did not do so completely, and the combination of his maneuvers and those of the other driver allowed him to escape injury. He also learned a valuable lesson about recklessness -- which will prove "lucky" in the end!

Regards all.

One's Fate is on one's own hands and the desicions that one makes in life.

There is no Luck for the one, who knows one hundred percent on what one is working towards. This might just be impossible.

Co-incidence is Diversification of Luck.

Never the less, these are just one's views...
