I wouldn't say i feel sad if the anime character feels sad, but i get a little annoyed if the anime character is completely hopeless, or if a "good" anime character gets treated shittily by some other, bad anime character.

I really felt an emotional connection two the characters in Clannad, especially Ckannad After Story

Yeah, Clannad was pretty emotional. Have to say, nearly stopped watching when someone died(You all know if you saw). And the second time might have actually brought a tear to my eye. Sorry, dont wanna spoil it too much for those that havent seen it.
