Let's talk fanservice!
« on: March 09, 2007, 03:28:56 PM »
Are you a fanservice fan? How do you feel about it? Do you think it adds or detracts from anime? Do you even care if it's there or not?

Discuss it here.

it really detracts when a whole story detirorates into nothing but pantyflashing and upcrotch shots...( Ghost in The Shell 2  o_O <_< )

Also have to say, though Ranma started as a complete fanservice excuse, it got better eventually and so can all other series which rely heavily on fanservice...( Love Hina....( ;) ;)Ken Akamatsu, you pervert.....)

Fan Sevice can't be bad. The fact that it sells and has demand means that for the general person it's good.

I personally have no problem with all the fanservice... as long as it does not boil down to hentai with no story or proper theme... If there is anything I don't like... then it's an anime with a lame storyline/script.

Come to think of it... I liked Futari Ecchi. At least it has a story and sticks to it.

Fan service is umm... is actually portrayal of adult content (namely frontal exposure and the likes...) You see, it's called fanservice maybe because fans like to see their lead characters in that form.

Plenty of 'service' anime floating around out there......not all are bad, and most certainly not all are good.......

Bad/Mediocre: Psychic Academy Aura Bashou and others

Decent/Good: Shuffle! and others

Most will just cook up a lame story and pretend to follow it, but some manage to make a good story and then incorporate some ecchi and service into it.....

Fan service does not necessarily implies adult content (PG-18). Remember, Love Hina is PG-13.

It broadly refers to depiction of racy contents in anime/manga to excite the viewer. The common usage of service are shower scenes, hot springs, bathing suits, pantsu shots and bouncing breasts.

On the topic, my opinion is service is not a necessity. But, if used judiciously/tastefully doesn't hurts either. Once in a while you do come across some mature themes in an anime, but the key is how tastefully it is handled.

There are many series with fan service that I like, but I am also of the opinion that many would have been a lot better without them.

I think many of us have seen it with or without knowing them. Remember Stratos 4 Yeah! Studio Fantasia is notorious for that! :P

@Arr0wHeaD: Talking about pantsu flashing, you haven't seen anything till you have seen Najica Blitz Tactics. You will lose count of the pantus shots, zillions of them :P

And did I mention the Limited Edition artbox of the series came with a WCP (Undergarment... ha ha!) :-"
I almost fell from my chair when I took it out of the box! o_O

But, at the same time I liked the story, so if you can ignore them you might  like the anime.

Judiciously used...... thats a nice way to put it...........

Yeah if bouncing breasts is your pill then Grenadier will be great for you........if Bathing suits works for  you..... then I cant suggest any ONE anime, but nearly all anime have a good selection of those......... panty shots would be Hand Maid May, or as animeindia has stated Najica Blitz..........

Its the staple diet for most anime and generally more prevalent in the romance and/or comedy genre. Any anime with pretty anime girls usually has a good deal of service thrown in.

One anime without much service but still having pretty women is Noir.
