Manga? Anime?

Hi there! I'm confused between anime and manga. What are the differences between them?
eg. Fate Stay Night on TV show that I saw reach until final episode (I think), which is Shiro Emiya obtain Holy Grail. Not really sure about that. But then, I read the manga which i believe it is like 'comic books'. From there, I realized that it has 40 episode which is not reached to Holy Grail yet. So, I wondering that manga is connected to anime or not. :O

The anime and manga are both based on the visual novel of the same name. The difference between the two is that the anime mixes together every scenario in the visual novel while the manga only covers a certain one (Unlimited Blade works). To get the full story it's probably better to play the visual novel, but failing that the anime might not be too bad a choice since it covers more paths.
