Sketchy Manga
« on: January 01, 2012, 06:06:45 AM »
For those who were big fans of Kiss X Sis...
Is it a growing trend to create Manga
series that follow a very fine line between
Hentai and Street-Appropriate?

I see it going around an awful lot recently
manga series that touch on topics that
would otherwise not come up in idle
conversation, or visually display situations
that would make audiences feel uncomfortable.

How do people feel about series like Kiss X Sis
and is it really necessary to follow similar series
like Kodomo no Jikan, and a few others that
have been treading on dangerous waters.

Do you know of a few titles that may be similar?

You might also want to add "Aki Sora" to that list.

Is this a general trend, I don't think so. There have always been mangakas who have flirted with the controversial topics, but some use it more as a "shock factor".

Do check "Angel Sanctuary", "Koi Kaze". They too deal with controversial subjects, albeit in more balanced manner.

That's the point. "In a more balanced manner."
If you want to get that sophisticated, yes there have been manga/anime that have dealt with sketchy topics
(Kurumi)
(Sakura Diaries)
(Video Girl Ai/I"s)
(I Dream of Mimi)
(If I See You In My Dreams)
even (Magical Shopping Arcade - Abenobashi)  That one was pushing it a bit more.

However, I'm noticing it happen at much HIGHER frequencies and dealing with younger and younger age groups.  I guess I was trying to beater around the bush without actually coming out and saying it.

Heck.  Even Tsukoyomi: MoonPhase could be argued as one of these that had a Young girl Hazuki (13) dealing with a spiritually inept photographer Kohei (27)

Most of the ones I've seen in the past dealt with age groups close to if not over 17.  But perhaps I'm just missing it.
