I am one of the few proponents of dubbing... but that said... given the crappy quality of many North American dubs... I am completely outgunned by the Sub purists... but the thing is that I have no real preference...
I enjoy dubs if theyre done right... for example Master Keaton, Black Lagoon, Colorcloud Palace, Read or Die etc... a thing to note is that most of the series I prefer english dubs for are those where the series itself is based in a 'foreign' setting... i.e. an anime which is set in a country other than Japan containing non Japanese characters and which also tries to be 'real' (to whatever extent is possible)
Crappy dubs make me mad for two reasons... they ruin my image of the anime and the characters, but more importantly, they are a waste of my life given the tonnes of unwatched anime lying in my HDD's...
The simple fact is this... its a lot easier to screw up at dubbing than it is to screw up at subbing... I mean... whats the worst you could do with a sub? Typos? Crappy font? Some minor losses in translation? But whatever it might be... its an easy fix as opposed to a dub...
So... (once again) I will tell any sub purists who read this post to kindly lay off and give the dubbers a chance...
