Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010)
« on: May 21, 2010, 07:42:01 PM »

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Romance

Quote
The setting is sixth century Persia. A nefarious nobleman covets the Sands of Time, a legendary gift from the gods that allows its possessor to turn back time. Whoever owns the Sands of Time has the power to rule the world, and this villainous lord would use that power to enslave all of humanity. The only person capable of defeating this tyrant and saving the world is Dastan (Gyllenhaal), a youthful prince. Now, with plucky princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) by his side, Dastan will attempt to prevent the Sands of Time  from falling into the wrong hands.

Didn't quite live up to my expectations... the ending was the weak link.

The movie scores 3 out of 5 for me.

Most of my friends who have gone for it ended up telling me it was lame.

On the other hand, paper reviews are giving it 4 stars out of 5. I'm totally confused as to whether I should watch it or not.

Most likely, I'll download the movie later.

Its a Disney movie... whaddya expect? Some fun chase sequences though... otherwise not very interesting... you see all the clichés... The crafty and 'hidden' villain... the princess falling for the tough guy prince... the comic relief character (ever a necessity for a Disney movie)... how the characters find time to share a kiss even though a battle ranges in the background... which (to their credit) is still a little better than Pirates of the Caribbean where they found time for an entire wedding on board a ship which is sailing inside an enormous whirlpool (and pouring rain) while also being attacked by savage immortal fish faced pirates... Oh... and I think there was another kiss right while the villain is going to commit an act which could destroy the world... etc etc...

The guy playing the prince... whats-his-face... from October Sky... did a fair job I guess... another thing which annoyed me about the movie was the obvious 'white-accents' that all the characters had and the fact that they used Mexicans to play the roles of some of the other characters.... it could have worked if they'd done a better job... but they were far too obvious...

Meh... 3/5 is about as high as I would go... Dont go to this movie expecting something 'deep'.... its just a summer entertainer... and not a spectacular one at that... waiting for "Get him to the Greek" is probably a better option...

It was an average movie.

I have liked Jake Gyllenhaal in October Sky, Zodiac and Brokeback mountain, but in this movie he looked very ordinary. The only one who stood out was Alfred Molina. He was rather good with his comic timing in an otherwise ordinary performance from the rest of the cast.

The saving grace for Prince of Persia was its cinematography and art direction. The action was good and the movie had a lively pace, but no where near the game.

Saw it. Got it from a friend of mine. It was fun to watch - not being to critical, since I haven't palyed the game. But from a standalone perspective, it was a well paced movie and kept the viewer's interests perked. No complains about the actors, as far as I go - but the Princess....she's another matter - she was HOT. Simple: H-O-T.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2605345/ <- So she casts in Transformers 3 ??? I didn't even know another one was coming out...

Anyway, in this movie she was plain amazing :P
