yeah, damn earthquakes.
hope the japanese people get through in these tough times.

i am ready to go to japan to help (if i get funding), only problem is i might turn out to be more of a nuisance/bother and get in people's way since i don't anything about first aid etc.

A lot of lives lost were lost, apart from the colossal property damage. My thoughts go out to all those affected by this tragedy.

I have been trying to reach a friend in Sapporo. Though Sapporo is about 300 miles north of the epicenter of the quake. Still I'm quite worried after viewing the extent of damage.

Quote
- All public transport, rail, air, port and mobile services were shut down. Schools are providing shelter to stranded commuters

-- Nuclear power emergency declared. Five plants shut down. A fire broke out at Oganawa nuclear plant in NE Japan and has since been extinguished

-- As many as 80 buildings, many of them in Tokyo, burst into flames as a result of the quake

-- 4 million households have been deprived of electricity

I hope your friend is fine and in good health.
RIP to the people who lost their lives in this tragedy.

The extent of devastation is too much. Was looking at pics on BBC site and got sad. Everything's under water and debris. The farmlands are most probably useless now that salt water has gone into them. No homes, no electricity, no shelter! And to top it their weather is fickle.

But these guys are so hard working I'm sure they clean up the damage and build a better place in the coming years. These people rise like a phoenix from the ashes.

Such a tragic event. My condolences to the families who lost a loved one.

Apart from the rescue operation, containing the nuclear reactor meltdown is the biggest concern right now.

Let us not forget to keep them in our prayers, even now that the worst appears to be over.  It will be a long period of recovery for the people of Japan, but it has been heartening to see everyone coming together to make a difference over there.
