Kimi ga Nozomu no Eien had 16 Episodes - Mitsuki's Route: First 14 30min/Last 2 45min+
Plus 2 Spin-Off series
"Next Season" - Following Haruka's Route
and
"Akane" - Following Akane's route
Though it's a great series, I don't see how it was dishonored by way of longevity.
The reason I wrote about both of these is because they only saw ONE release each.
First: Video Girl Ai (which took only the first Manga and First two chapters of the second)
----If you ever read the series, the story becomes QUITE deep in emotions, and very
addictive since Yota Moteuchi was never really completely dedicated to one person
or another. Yes, he liked Moemi initially (as shown in the anime), however, he moved
on after he realized she was a lost cause. Then again it gets quite messy with details
more than a Forum can tell.
The other was I"s which was very similar, however, they simply took all 15 Manga
and literally condensed them into a mere 6 episodes. Having read the series,
I must say that again there was SO much going on in all 15 volumes that the anime
only could give the bare skin surface of the story. Though better than Video Girl Ai
still left much uncovered.
I suppose if I had to name one similar case I'd have to point out "Oh! My Goddess!"
For those who remember the 5 Episode OVA, it ran rather fast paced and was over
before there was much time to really get used to the characters and so on.
-However, I'm sure for those who watched this OVA and then watched the
"Ah! My Goddess!" series, most would state that the Ah! My Goddess series was
significantly more memorable. Why? Simply put here you had 48 episodes to tell
the same story they tried to tell in 5 episodes. I must say that Kei'ichi is much
more well balanced in the extended series as well.
I still would like a season 3 out of that series. Doubt it'll ever come though...
