Anime!Anime!Tokikake earns "Animation of the Year" award; Death Note, Code Geass and Haruhi win awards for best TV Anime
As a part of the Tokyo Anime Fair which opens this Thursday, March 22nd at the Tokyo Big Sight Convention Center, the winners of the 6th Annual Tokyo Anime Awards have been announced. Winners will be honored at an award ceremony on the 22nd at the Fair.
The "Animation of the Year" award went to Toki wo Kakeru Shojo (The Girl Who Lept Through Time). This is the 6th major award that Tokikake has received. Other awards the anime has won include the Mainichi Film Award, Animation Kobe Award, and the Japan Academy Award for Best Animation. In addition to winning "Animation of the Year", the film won 5 other awards, including Best Director and Best Character Design.
Two series that were huge hits with fans, Code Geass and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, won "Best TV Anime" awards. The TV Anime for Death Note, a series that was also made into two extremely popular live-action films in 2006, took home the third "Best TV Anime" award.
